It’s that Desperately Disabled but Delightful Doctor again! : OX28 6BS, Oxfordshire

Think of me as Oxford’s answer to Cambridge’s Professor Stephen Hawking (without the mega-intellect) and you have some idea what I’m like. I rely on my care team for everything – I am on a ventilator, gastrostomy fed and need full personal care. Despite this I continue to work as a hospital consultant and expert witness in court. A vacancy has arisen in my 24 hour care team and the job consists of a mixture of days and working nights as per this two week rota: • Week 1 o Monday to Thursday 14.00 – 20.00 o Friday 07.00 – 14.00 • Week 2 o Monday, Tuesday 21.30 – 07.00 Wednesday 21.30 – 08.00 o Friday 07.00 – 14.00 This would generate a monthly salary of £1551 before tax & NI. Overtime is often available. The job is primarily to provide care but on Fridays you will accompany me into hospital with another carer and assist with my attending meetings and other aspects of my work. This part of the job requires you to be able to drive and a clean driving license is essential. I would hope to appoint by late May/early June and commence (paid) training mid-June. Subject to satisfactory performance the formal contract will be issued mid-July. I would expect you would stay in post for at least one year. The successful candidate will be asked to join in the family holiday in France to provide (paid) care. All expenses paid. The job does require some lifting – please don’t apply if you are not prepared to do this. I’m not heavy having lost all of my muscles and most of my fat to Motor Neurone Disease! In your application please include your CV. Previous experience in care work is not essential because I am so unique and training will be given. An optimistic and flexible disposition is absolutely necessary! Be warned! We will have a lot of fun together!
