Accommodation: Live-in accommodation available (note: there will be a small weekly fee). Contract: Fixed Term, immediate start for 6 months. SYHA Hostelling Scotland is the largest network of Youth Hostels in Scotland, with over 70 locations across the country. A self-funding charitable organisation, our purpose is to help all, but especially young people, to experience Scotland’s natural heritage and places of historic and cultural interest. We are currently seeking to appoint a Hostel Assistant to provide a high standard of professional, efficient and effective guest service within Aviemore Youth Hostel. The main responsibilities of this position include a full reception service to hostel guests including check-in/out, handling customer enquiries and providing information, guidance and support for guests and their onward travels, general customer service, housekeeping, laundry and catering duties (e.g. providing assistance during breakfast, and function service. (This may involve basic food preparation as well as cleaning and washing up.) This hostel runs at a high occupancy level and the suitable candidate will have a commitment to high standards of customer service. Suitable candidates will have worked in a customer facing role and will be IT literate with cash handling experience. They will also have a good knowledge and experience of food and hygiene practices as well as an understanding of the importance of health and safety at work. The role also involves some physical activities such as bed making of bunk beds with upper and lower beds, including stripping and turning mattresses. The provision of customer service during busy times can be demanding. Flexibility and adaptability as well as a can-do attitude and the ability to work under pressure will be an important attribute of the candidate. It is not essential, but applications will be considered favourably from candidates who have worked in the hospitality industry, with a good knowledge of the local and surrounding area to be able to deliver first class guest information and help with travel planning as well as giving our guests inspiration on how to make the most of their stay in the area.
