Essential Nearest Tube or Station: Long Buckby Additional Needs: Acquired brain injury We are seeking two mature, confident and fun alternate weekend nannies to work with three wonderful boys with very different characters, ‘R’ (8), ‘F’ (5) and ‘J’(2). ‘J ’has an acquired brain injury as a result of a near drowning accident when he was 18 months old. He has been receiving 24/7 care at a specialist children’s rehabilitation centre. The centre has done amazing work with ‘J’and his family but they really need to all be back together now and therefore looking for a team of fantastic people to enable ‘J’ to move back with his family to Northamptonshire in March 2013. At the centre ‘J ’has regular Physio, speech and language therapy, hydrotherapy and occupational therapy. He has made good progress and is currently working on improving his head control. ‘J ’is generally responsive when someone enters the room and at times has been very receptive to key family members on arrival. He has a peg and has lots of set feeds throughout the day and night, as well as eating orally. ‘J’is very clear at letting people know what he likes such as strong flavored food like curry! To give ‘J ’the opportunity of trying new things feeding takes a lot of patience and persistence. He also has seizures on daily basis; they are very sporadic and currently not controlled by medication. The family is starting ketogenic diet which will hopefully reduce the number of seizures. ‘J’ loves hydrotherapy, it really helps him relax and the family will be adapting their pool so he can do this daily at home. In addition, they are going to have a sensory area and his room will be fully adapted for all his needs. He also enjoys music and being read too. ‘J ’can become distressed when being picked up and will cry out as if in discomfort, however he is a gorgeous little boy who needs a team of dedicated people to help him develop to his fullest potential and support him to be part of his outgoing family. ‘R’ and ‘F’ are both very caring towards their brother, but are finding the whole situation unsettling, especially ‘R’. The nannies will be very much involved with all three children; the other two boys need someone strong to give them the emotional support needed to help them understand J’’s condition. The person needs to be positive and fun, somebody confident and proactive who will be able to use own initiative when needed and follow the directions from the team leader. We need someone to be sensitive and know when to step back and let mum be the mum. This is an amazing opportunity to become part of an extremely close, loving and positive family who desperately want to all be back together in their family home. Please contact Francesca or Alicja who have recently met with the family and can provide much more information.
